What Do You Want Your Dog to Do? Whether it’s walking politely on the leash, greeting visitors with a paw shake instead of a flying leap, or letting you know when he needs to go outside, Animal Behavior Training Concepts can help you teach your dog to do it. Our group sessions and in-home training services range from puppy foundations to advanced good manners to customized individual programs for dogs and families with specific needs.
We also collaborate with veterinary and veterinary-behavior professionals to help dogs (and their owners) overcome specific behavior challenges, including fear, anxiety, and aggression.
It’s You and the Dog ABTC celebrates the human-animal bond—and our positive reinforcement training method fosters it. Our training team includes Karen Pryor Academy faculty and Certified Training Partners, Certified Professional Dog Trainers, professional members of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, and AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluators. We are committed to the most humane application of behavioral science to the challenges faced by companion animal owners.
More For Your Money Our group sessions are small, with a high student-teacher ratio, lots of individualized attention, and generous support between sessions. We offer rolling admission, so you will rarely wait more than a week to get started, and our modular system offers flexibility for busy schedules. Our canine learning center at Furnetic/Chicago Center for Veterinary Medicine, is accessible by car and public transportation and parking is free. We also offer in-home training and private lessons at the canine learning center.
Who We Are Founder and training director Laura Monaco Torelli has been training dogs, horses, birds, and their people in Chicago since 2004. She began her career in 1991 in the zoo and aquarium community and brings to companion-animal training the same fun, humane, effective, and scientifically sound approach used to train marine mammals and other exotic animals. She is a staff member at Chicagoland Veterinary Behavior Consultants and recently joined the faculty of Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior, of which she is also a graduate.
The training team Laura has assembled brings to ABTC a rich breadth of experience that includes not only multispecies training but also advanced teaching and communication skills.
